All Principals

Dear ÉSBCHS Families,

We have officially wrapped up our first week of 2026! There is a unique buzz that comes with a fresh start, and it was fantastic to welcome your children back.

Earlier this week, I shared a challenge with our students and staff. We know that coming back after a break can sometimes feel a little sluggish, so we focused on shifting our mindset toward gratitude. Instead of the standard "How was your break?", we encouraged everyone to ask: "What was your absolute favourite thing about the break?"

Whether it was connecting with family, mastering a new game, or just enjoying a lazy morning in pajamas, focusing on those highlights helped us start the week with a sense of appreciation. I encourage you to ask your teen that same question this weekend—you might be surprised by the answer!

The "Reset" for Semester 1: As we look forward, our eyes are set on finishing Semester 1 strong. To ensure every student has the best environment to learn and succeed, we hit the "reset" button on two key expectations this week:

  • Phones Away: We are reinforcing the Government of Alberta’s personal device rules. To minimize distractions and maximize focus, phones must be stored away for the entire class period.
  • Be in Class: We are emphasizing that during instructional time, students need to be in the classroom. Keeping the hallways clear ensures our building remains safe and focused on learning.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting these expectations at home. When we clear the distractions, we make room for success.

We are off to a great start. Let’s keep this positive momentum going!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Sean Flanagan

Principal, ÉSBCHS
